Recently, cafes has been on the rise in Singapore, and the main café district being in Tiong Bahru, where there are cafes such as Tiong Bahru Bakery (fluffy croissants), Forty Hands (huge and nice eggs benedict), Orange Thimble (nice newyork cheesecake), Flock Café (aromatic coffee) and the recent new addition, The Dispensary (where I will mention more about it later).
Its been a long time since CK, CH and I met, and so we decided to explore the Tiong Bahru area, where we confirmed our dinner, at PoTeaTo!
78 Yong Siak St, 163078
The signboard that greeted us right outside the café.
A cozy café!
Truffle fries to share! There was minimal/no salt in these fries, yet it tasted crispy!
Sorry for the blurry pic, as we were seated outside and so the lighting wasn’t that good.
Seafood Aglio Olio. This spaghetti was so oily, that my whole lips felt that I have applied lipgloss!
I thought Aglio Olio was supposed to be dry?
And additionally, there was no chopped red chilli which gives Aglio Olio its “kick”. 😥
Salmon with baked potatoes.
The cost was really worth it for this huge salmon.
My friend CK who tried this said that the salmon skin for this was crispy but stuck to his teeth, but its salmon and potatoes tasted fresh!
P.S. PoTeaTo doesn’t charge GST/service charge!
Overall, I don’t think I would head back to this café again, unless to try their brunch.
So we next headed to The Dispensary for desserts!
69 Tiong Bahru Road
The Dispensary, was once a medicinal hall, and so they have kept the Chinese cabinets that used to store herbs, and a traditional weighing scale to weigh coffee beans rather than herbs.
The Chinese cabinets at the back!
It can be seen that the people behind The Dispensary has put in a huge amount of thought for its entire café design, as every part of the café blended well with each other, with a mixture of traditional Chinese and Western decorations.
Smart marketing techniques to make people feel like ordering ALL these cakes by plainly looking at these posters!
This tasted pretty okay, but the whole cream cheese was too thick, which covers the carrot cake taste.
Chocolate Banana Cake. This was nicer than Secret Recipe’s!
The chocolate cream cheese at the top, and the chocolate mousse at the centre blended really well, and with the chocolate pops at the side of the cake, it tasted really AWESOME!
This cake is a MUST TRY at The Dispensary!
We ordered a Red Velvet cupcake to share, which was pretty disappointing. 😦
It seems as if they used instant mix to bake the cupcake! 😦
And that goes our end of the café exploration!
Till then! 😀
